The Kasbah is situated at 1800m in the Ait Mizana area of the high Atlas
Mountains some 60km from Marrakech. With stunning views of Mount Jbel
Toubkal with valleys and waterfalls below guests will find their stay
at the Kasbah an exotic experience that will remain with them forever.
The Kasbah is perched on a great rock outcrop which vehicles cannot reach
which requires guests to either walk or ride by mule the short final distance
from the village. The Kasbah is a welcoming environment for those seeking
a comfortable mountain refuge and for those wishing for superb rooms in
a stunning setting. Originally built in the 1940's by a wealthy Caid as
a summer retreat the Kasbah has been carefully restored to its original
glory by craftsmen using local building techniques and materials.
Income from the Kasbah contributes to local village life and is part
of the village associations that help finance projects such as providing
an ambulance, building schools and other on going projects like improving
water supplies.
The film producer Martin Scorsese chose the Kasbah as the base for his
film about the life of the Dalai Lama.
Various trekking tours are available to guests including the Ascention
of Mount Jbel Toubkal (13,665ft) with one night spent in the mountain
refuge. Other tours can be full day or half day by mule or walking with
guides.
The Kasbah is not licenced. Guests can however bring their own drinks
which can be purchased on arrival in Marrakech.
