One of the worlds great mountain ranges the High Atlas Mountains
stretch for over 700 km from the greenery of the North East to
the pre-sahara of the East and eventually plunging in to the white
sand beaches of the Atlantic Ocean in the South. There are 12
peaks over 4000m and 400 peaks over 3000m with the majestic Mount
Toubkal at 4165m. The mountains are the mistress of all they survey
and await discovery with breathtaking landscapes, surreal rugged
scenery, magnificent forests, flora and fauna.
Specialist activities are available such as rock climbing and
mountaineering, hiking, trekking, riding, skiing, canyoning, white
water sports, angling, hunting and potholing.
The mountains are occupied by proud welcoming people who have
retained their heritage and preserved age old traditions. Visitors
will discover hugh gorges and canyons, surging rivers, splendid
lakes, dams and waterfalls. There are pre-historic rock paintings
and dinosour skeletons.
There are numerous architecturally beautiful fortified kasbahs
with accommodation available from bivouacs and tents, gites and
refuges to luxury boutique hotels. Visitors can arrange a mountain
stay in conjunction with a holiday in one of the main resorts.
