Day 1: To Casablanca
Depart from London on direct flight to Casablanca. Remainder of day at leisure. Overnight Meridien Kenzi Tower.
Day 2: To Erfoud via Er- Rachidia
After breakfast early morning flight to Er Rachidia in the beautiful Tafilalet region, bounded by the impressive Middle Atlas Mountains to the north, and the vast expanses of the unforgiving Sahara Desert to the south. Overnight Kasbah Xaluca Maadid.
Day 3: To Merzouga
The road from Er-Rachidia is delightful with ancient Berber fortress, framed by palm groves, growing as far as the eye can see. Then drive through the impressive Ziz Valley with the spectacular scenery changing from rugged mountain to the rock strewn scrublands of the desert. A camel will be your transport for the final leg to the campsite! As dusk falls the sunset turns the sky a fiery red and surreal shadows play over the over the whispering dunes. The area is a favourite with filmmakers with photo opportunities around every corner. Overnight in a Desert Camp.
Day 4: To Tineghir
Crumbling Ksour and endless miles of date palms makes the palmery of Tineghir very picturesque. It’s an ideal place to walk in the shade with only the sound of the wind and birds to break the silence. Two nights at the Hotel Timboctou.
Day 5: Full day 4x4 excursion to Todra Valley
A 4x4 drive to the impressive Todra Gorge is delightful: drive through verdant countryside dotted with almond and pomegranate trees, and lined, with endless miles of palm and olive groves. Local villages are surrounded by a vivid patchwork of fields with crops to feed the family. The impressive Todra Gorge, is a canyon 1,000 ft high, cut into the pink and green walls of the High Atlas. It’s an area for rock climbing and for nature lovers.
Day 6: To Zagora via N’Kob
Take a 4x4 drive to N’kob, with its spectacular scenery and early rock carvings, before driving out to the Desert Camp. Often, Tuareg nomads (often called the Blue Men because of the indigo used to dye their robes) can be seen with their camels. Short camel ride into the dunes to see the amazing sunset. Overnight Riad Lamane.
Day 7: To Tata via Foum Zguid
Continue to the next Desert Camp at Tata via Foum Zguid. Its sheer remoteness is breathtaking – with only the endless desert for company. The whole area is truly ‘off the beaten track’! Overnight Dar Infiane.
Day 8: To Sidi Ifni
Escape from the heat of the desert and relax on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean at Sidi Ifni. A decided Spanish atmosphere pervades the air (the Spanish only gave up power in 1969), with delightful Art Deco architecture and houses painted in soft pastel shades. Two nights Hotel at Fort Bou Jerif
Day 9: Sidi Ifni
Day at leisure to explore the town, wander the Andalusian gardens or simply relax by the hotel pool. If visiting on a Sunday go to the Souk awash storytellers, musicians and lots of souvenirs!
Day 10: To Taroudant
Drive to Taroudant passing though the Anti Atlas Mountains, where strongholds – Kasbahs – with their stark, often windowless walls, stand as testimony to a turbulent past. Taroudant is surrounded by glorious ancient ochre coloured walls – and boasts some of the best food in the south of Morocco! Take a horse drawn carriage drive in the evening to relax and unwind in lovely surroundings. Overnight Hotel Dar Zitoune
Day 11: To Marrakech
After a leisurely breakfast, drive to Marrakech Morocco’s second-largest city. Its very name rings of romance, mystery and intrigue…. Three nights Riad Kniza
Day 12: Full day tour Marrakech
No tour can miss the beautiful Medina. Sights to see include the celebrated Koutoubia Minaret, considered one of the finest examples of Islamic architecture, the Kasbah, the 16th C. Saadian Tombs and the Koutoubia Mosque. Pause and souvenir hunt in the Jemaa El Fna Square with its shops and lovely old buildings. Other visits include the Agdal and Menara gardens, and the Majorelle gardens privately owned by Yves St. Laurent.
Day 13: Marrakech
Day at leisure to explore this fascinating city. Perhaps return in the evening to see the Jemaa – el – Fna come alive - it transforms into a riot of colour and incredible noise as dancers, snake charmers, fortune tellers vie for attention. Sizzling kebabs and scrumptious tajines tempt the palate, whilst shoppers can purchase sensuous, heady perfumes, intricate carpets, Bedouin jewellery and aromatic spices.
Day 14: To London
Transfer to the airport for return direct flight to London. |
